Bin collections in Stirling over the festive period will see temporary adjustments to the schedule.

Stirling Council has confirmed that there will be no waste and recycling collections on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day or January 2.

All residents whose bin collection falls on one of those days can check their online postcode finder for their new, temporary collection dates for their grey and green bins.

To accommodate the adjustments and prioritise grey and green bin collections, there will be no brown bin or blue bin collections between Monday, December 23 – Sunday, December 29 and Monday, December 30 – January 5.

Brown bin collections will resume from the week commencing Monday, January 6, with blue bin collections resuming Monday, January 27.

In order to maximise space in the blue bins, residents are being urged to ‘wash and squash’ items before placing in bins. Excess waste and recycling can also be taken to Household Waste Recycling Centres at Lower Polmaise, Balfron and Callander.

The recycling centres will be open and operating as normal, under winter hours, but will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and January 2.

Access to the recycling centres can only be gained by making a booking.

The council confirmed that there will also be temporary adjustments to some commercial waste collections to accommodate the festive period. Commercial waste customers will receive individual letters informing them of their temporary adjustments.

Residents are also being encouraged to recycle at a time of the year when there is typically increased waste and recycling produced at home.

Convener of the Environment, Transport and Net Zero committee, Cllr Jen Preston, said: “With homes producing more waste than at any other point in the year from gift packaging, wrapping paper, cards and glass bottles, we would encourage residents to recycle as much as possible.

“Our Household Waste Recycling Centres will also remain open throughout most of the festive period if people have excess paper or cardboard or other bulky items that don’t fit in their bins.

“We would like to thank businesses and residents for their understanding around these temporary changes over the festive period, especially our army of ‘Binfluencers’ and the work they do for their neighbours and local communities in keeping us all right.

“On behalf of Stirling Council’s Waste Services team, we would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”

Standard paper, wrapping paper and gift cards should be placed in your green recycling bin. Wrapping paper or gift cards containing foil, glitter, ribbons or felt coatings are not recyclable and should be placed in your grey bin.

If you have excess paper or cardboard during the festive period, you can take it to any of the council recycling centres at Lower Polmaise, Balfron or Callander.

You can recycle real Christmas trees within the garden waste skips at any of the recycling centres, or you can chop them up and place in your brown bin, if you have a valid garden waste permit.
