BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) – In every movie, it takes the Grinch until Christmas to find his holiday spirit. But in Blacksburg, his heart has already grown three times larger and he’s helping the police department put some presents under the Christmas tree instead.
The days of wallowing in self-pity, solving world hunger (telling NO one,) and jazzercise are up for this Grinch.
He’s taken on a new role as Blacksburg Police Department’s Christmas Ambassador.
Lt. Kale Craver with the BPD said the Grinch was brought onto the force to help officers spread PSA’s and safety tips this holiday season.
“The town even hired him to kind of help out around and stuff like that, so he’s he’s been doing all kinds of things, visiting gyms… All kinds of stuff,” said Lt. Kraver.
Instead of plotting to ruin Christmas, this Grinch is helping bridge the gap between BPD and the community and share some of the fun projects the department is working on.
“He hits such a wide spectrum . . . Everybody knows who the Grinch is, and so it allows us to hit that whole group, but at the same time kind of deliver those messages that sometimes don’t get conveyed enough like they should,” said Lt. Craver.
One of those projects is BPD’s first Angel Tree. Anyone can pick a name from the tree and help make sure all the “Whos” around Blacksburg have presents this holiday season.
“It’s a way that the police department can further provide for the community and give some presents and essentials to families and kids who may not have access to that this season,” explained Lt. Craver.
Lt. Craver does ask that everyone keep an eye out for the Grinch and let the police department know if you spot him… Nobody knows what he could be up to next.
