Grinning Kris Boyd exploded with confidence as he insisted Rangers are roaring back – after experiencing the joy of six against Kilmarnock.

Word of the rout at Ibrox reached beaming Boyd and he signed off Sky Sports’ coverage of Celtic’s gutsy 1-0 win over Aberdeen by insisting his former team aren’t finished yet despite sitting 11 points behind the team who have won the Scottish Premiership in 12 of the past 13 seasons.

But Boyd is a believer again weeks after writing off Philippe Clement and his under-fire Rangers team after they suffered a chastening 2-1 defeat in the Granite City. But it’s all change for Boyd, and he said: “Be afraid, Rangers are back”.

That one liner, perhaps with his tongue firmly planted in his cheek, reduced fellow pundits Jonny Hayes and Neil Lennon to laughter. And host Eilidh Barbour didn’t miss a beat, she said: “Oh my goodness, we will find out on Sunday (at Ross County)”

Boyd then refused to take a backwards step.
