A “cosy” and “lovely” cottage just outside of Scotland’s “happiest town” can currently be booked for less than £70 per night.

The Stables is a unique property sleeping up to two guests, situated within 30 acres of pastoral farmland near the town of Dumfries in Dumfries and Galloway. At the moment, it can be booked through Airbnb at a discounted rate of £69 per night.

As reported by the Daily Record, Dumfries was recently named the “happiest” town in Scotland. According to experts at Rightmove, it places behind Stirling as the second-happiest destination overall in the country.

The accommodation itself is a “quirky conversion” that is centred around a living room with a wood-burning stove. It also has access to a courtyard seating area, while there is a separate guest garden.

The property is a short distance from some of the most picturesque beaches in Scotland. It is also within driving distance of all of the 7stanes mounting biking trails.

Elsewhere, the scenic Colvend Coast is less than a 30-minute drive from The Stables. The town of Kirkcudbright is also located to the west, featuring fishing opportunities and a wide range of golf courses.

Another nearby highlight is the award-winning Loch Arthur farm shop, which is only a mile away. It stocks a wide selection of organic cheeses, fruit, vegetables, meat, eggs, and freshly baked breads.

According to Airbnb, The Stables is a ‘guest favourite’ property. This means that it is among its most popular and highly rated accommodation options.

One recent guest shared: “Such a lovely little place to stay and I felt right at home. Was able to completely switch off and just relax.

“Everywhere I had planned to visit whilst staying there was all in driving distance and not far at all. Would definitely recommend and would stay again.”

A second echoed: “We had a wonderful two-night stay here, perfect size for the two of us.

“It had everything we needed, and check in was easy. It was such a peaceful and beautiful place to stay.”

Another Airbnb user wrote: “Lovely little place. Perfect for a couple.

“Spotlessly clean, warm and cosy. Really enjoyed our stay.”

Meanwhile, a slightly less positive review reads: “It would have maybe been nice having a bigger TV that would have access to more channels when watching the TV. Lovely place.”

If you are looking to spend a night or two in Scotland’s “happiest town” this winter, but are after more traditional holiday accommodation, there is a variety of hotels and inns dotted around Dumfries and the surrounding area. These include the four-star Hetland Hall Hotel and The Cairndale Hotel and Spa.
