A rampant win for Rangers couldn’t have been timed any better as far as the board are concerned.

On the eve of their AGM, Philippe Clement and his team finally delivered a convincing league performance, smashing Kilmarnock 6-0 to make it three wins on the spin. It meant a slightly easier ride for the board and Philippe Clement at the Clyde Auditorium, and it reignited some title hopes on the Hotline.

Joe Graham, Garrowhill, said: “At last the magic wand has been waved for Rangers domestically in their 6-0 win at home to Kilmarnock. It was a very impressive win and signs look good now for a winning run of games to come. Hagi was instrumental on assists to start the goal run and has settled the balance in the final third. Keep this performance up and we won’t be far away come end of season. We are not out of the title race yet and the League Cup Final looks on now.”

Gordon Blackwell, Glasgow, said: “Rangers’ best performance of season spoiled by the manager making five substitutions and killing the game. Should and could have been 10. Five subs, yet Diomande still on the park at the end. Unbelievable.”

A sarcastic Arrin Geddes, Irvine, wrote in: “What a great night for the Rangers. They double their goal tally for the season and the champions win at Pittodrie to give them some hope of second place. Maybe their AGM won’t be the pantomime the people thought it would be.”

It certainly ended up an easier grilling than the board might have received two weeks ago given how recent results and performances have improved. As for sorry Kilmarnock? Yikes…

Tom Paterson, Falkirk, had a message for owner Billy Bowie as he said: “How long before you get rid of the most overrated SPFL manager ever in Derek McInnes? I know games vs the Old Firm don’t define our season, but that deplorable, pathetic effort at Ibrox was the last straw. Last season was a flash in the pan. This year unless he is jettisoned, we’re going down the pan. Act now Billy or we are doomed!”

James Murray, Cumnock, said: “Derek McInnes will have run out of excuses for results between blaming VAR or referees. It’s simple, he did not strengthen his squad enough at the start of the season.”

Across the city it was a big win for Celtic too as they edged Aberdeen out 1-0 to go seven points clear with a game in hand. Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “Another great and deserved three points for the champions at Pittodrie, once again showing they can win games when needed and it was a hard fought game in difficult conditions. I wonder how fans Rangers fans secretly celebrated when Hatate struck the winner, enhancing their chances of finishing second.”

And Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, said: “Philippe Clement had said that the season wasn’t decided in December but at a rain-soaked Pittodrie, Celtic almost certainly clinched the title once again. I don’t understand why Greg Taylor is not starting every week and his contribution to Hatate’s goal confirmed this. And as far as Rangers go, the Forest Gump phrase comes to mind: Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.”
