A new car wash business is coming to Whitletts Road in Ayr.

Planning approval has been given for a change of use to a piece of vacant land at 169 Whitletts Road.

The site had been subject to a variety of planning applications over the years and it was previously earmarked for a retail development with drive through coffee shop.

It’s understood that the site was once home to a petrol station, too.

However, none of the proposals after the closure of the petrol station came to pass and now a fresh application was submitted to South Ayrshire Council for consideration.

Agents in these latest proposals are Edesign Architecture & Planning Ltd and the applicant was TDR Group Holdings Ltd, based in Dundonald.

The plans show six covered car wash bays with a storage container sited in the middle, used to store plant equipment and other associated materials.

The applicants sought permission for a change of use from petrol filling station to form a car wash, including, “erection of canopy, siting of storage container, formation of valet bays and erection of fencing.”

In approving the plan, council papers said: “It is noted that the proposal has the potential to offer new and additional employment opportunities, and has previously been utilised as a car wash on various occasions.

“The previous commercial use of the site, including its former use as a car wash are materially significant in the consideration of the current application. Given the historic commercial use of the site, it is not considered that this proposal would intensify traffic or noise issues to such an extent that the amenity of the area would be drastically altered or compromised.”

The report adds: “The use of the site is not out of keeping with the locale, given its position within a local centre, and bearing in mind its previous historic use as a petrol filling station, and also a car wash.”
