MERCER COUNTY, W.Va. -With temperatures continuing to drop there are multiple warming-center options available for people needing a safe place to shelter on Thursday December 5.

In Mercer County the Karen Preservati Center, Bluewell United Methodist Church and the Matoaka Volunteer Fire Department.

The Karen Preservati Center and Bluewell United Methodist Church are set to open their doors at 8 o’clock tonight and Matoaka Volunteer Fire Department opening at 6 o’clock, offering a free place to stay warm through the night.

Mercer County’s Director of Emergency Management Services says at the Preservati Center the Salvation Army will be providing food and water with the Princeton Rescue Squad setting up as well.

“So, it is important. I mean, you know it’s one thing to be out in 30,40 or 20-degree temperatures, but when you get a 40 or 50 mile an hour wind of that really gets to the point where it could be deadly,” said Keith Gunnoe Director for Mercer County Emergency Management.

Gunnoe adds at the Preservati Center those looking for shelter can look for a red cross trailer and enter the building nearby.
