An historic 126-year-old clock in Bridge of Allan has collapsed after allegedly being struck by a vehicle this afternoon.

The Paterson Memorial Clock, located outside the town’s Westerton Arms, on Henderson Street, was flattened sometime on Friday afternoon.

Emergency services are in attendance.

It’s understood that the structure was struck by a Mini Cooper.

Bridge Of Allan Community Council shared the news on their social media channels, saying: “Bridge of Allan Community Council is saddened to share that the Paterson Memorial Clock has been struck by a vehicle, and the clock section has been destroyed.

“We hope the driver of the vehicle is safe and that nobody was hurt in the incident.

“The Paterson Clock has long been a cherished landmark in our village, and we know how much it means to the community. We will work with Stirling Council to understand the possibility of repair of such an important landmark.”

The Memorial Clock and Drinking Fountain was erected in 1898 by public subscription to commemorate gratitude for Dr Alexander Paterson’s service to the town.

Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for comment.
