Ozzy Osbourne has shared his unwavering love for a surprisingly healthy treat that he “can’t stop eating” – his affection lying with none other than the humble apple.
As the rock legend celebrated his 76th birthday on December 3, it’s come to light that despite his notorious past with alcohol and drugs, Ozzy has a much more wholesome addiction these days.
He confessed in an excerpt from The Osbournes podcast, during a family discussion on snacking habits with Sharon and their children Jack and Kelly Osbourne, that apples are his weakness, especially the Pink Lady variety, SurreyLive reports.
Kelly revealed her father’s capacity for the fruit by saying: “He’ll pound like 30 apples a day.” Without hesitation, Ozzy himself admitted: “My favourite apple is pink lady. I can’t stop eating pink lady.”
Echoing NHS advice regarding the importance of fruits and vegetables, the ‘5-a-day’ campaign, which falls in line with WHO recommendations of at least 400g of fruit for preventing various health issues including heart disease and some cancers, stands validated.
Healthline further extols apples for their numerous health benefits, suggesting they aid in weight loss and enhance brain and gut wellbeing while being loaded with vitamins and antioxidants.
The humble apple, a common feature in most fruit bowls, could be the secret weapon in your weight loss journey. The popular fruit is packed with water and fibre, helping you feel fuller for longer.

One study even suggested that munching on apples was more beneficial than drinking apple juice. Another study hinted at the potential of apples to lower an individual’s BMI, attributing this to the fruit’s polyphenols which may also combat obesity.
But it’s not just about weight loss – apples have been linked to heart health too. Consuming 100-150g of the fruit has been associated with a decreased risk of heart disease and conditions like high blood pressure.
Some studies suggest that the polyphenols found in apples might be responsible for reducing blood pressure, while flavonoids could potentially lower stroke risk. The NHS advises incorporating fruits and vegetables into your diet if you’re aiming to shed pounds, recommending a target of 5 a day, with 80g of fresh, tinned or frozen produce counting as one portion.
