A Scottish bed and breakfast has appeared on the Channel 4 series Four in a Bed.

Clachan Garden is located at the head of Loch Broom in the Highlands, approximately 50 miles from Inverness. It is run by couple Stephen and Margaret Munro, who have been married for almost 50 years.

The rural B&B is currently competing on the popular reality competition, which sees hospitality owners stay in each other’s accommodation. On Monday night’s episode of Four in a Bed, Stephen and Margaret were assessed on the cleanliness and quality of their B&B.

This week’s competitors are all based in Scotland, with Clachan Garden going head to head with Highland Premier Glamping Pods in Kiltarlity, Cultybraggan Camp in Perthshire, and Upplemore Hotel outside of Glasgow. On Friday, after all of the owners have slept a night in each other’s offerings, the winner will be declared.

Situated along the North Coast 500 scenic driving route, Stephen and Margaret have spent the past two years refurbishing the 20-year-old property. It is home to four rooms, which are each priced at £160 per night with breakfast included.

At the beginning of the episode, Stephen commented: “Clachan Garden is a rural B&B and what we’ve tried to create is a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere.”

Meanwhile, Margaret added: “People do say it’s like living at home from home, and they love it.”

While carrying out an inspection of their room, couple James and Neil Smith from Upplemore Hotel came across dust on the lamp and hairs in the bathtub. Meanwhile, friends Sandie Donaldson and Chloe Watson from Cultybraggan Camp criticised the B&B’s use of plastic cups and said it should be more environmentally friendly.

Fellow competitor Graham Fraser from Highland Premier Glamping Pods complained that he slept “awfully” as a result of dripping water from the shower throughout the night. Most of the guests also criticised Clachan Garden’s ‘no-shoes’ policy.

However, the B&B was praised for its “homely” and “cosy” atmosphere. Ultimately, only Sandie and Chloe said they would stay in Clachan Garden again.

On his decision, Graham said: “Sleep is the most important thing to me and as I couldn’t sleep here, it’s going to have to be a no.”

Four in a Bed continues tonight at 5pm on Channel 4.
