Rangers hero Hamza Igamane has been branded “one of the most interesting players” in the Europa League after his Tottenham heroics left a trio of pundits puzzled.
The Moroccan striker netted his third goal in as many games against the Premier League heavyweights as he continued his strong claim to be Philippe Clement’s first-choice striker at Ibrox. He has dislodged Cyriel Dessers after his recent form but the TNT Sports panel on Goals Show Xtra couldn’t quite put their finger on the magic that the 21-year-old has captured with the Scottish Premiership side.
After watching a recap of the Rangers man thumping the ball beyond Fraser Forster, Rory Smith said: ‘It’s a great finish from one of the most interesting players in this competition. Clement said after the game that he needed a lot of work to be ready to play, because he came from Morocco.
“I think tactically and physically they had to put a lot of hard yards in, and they are seeing the rewards. There is something very different about Igamane that you don’t see very often. It’s intriguing to see him play.”
Host Matt Smith then chimed in with a backhanded compliment to the forward: “He doesn’t look like the modern athlete, footballer…” His fellow panelist went on: “He moves differently and takes up unusual positions.”
Former Scotland international Don Hutchison then hailed the impact of the frontman – explaining why he has won over his Belgian boss: “He is aggressive in his running. When you look at someone like that you can get on board with him as a manager because you know he is going to work hard. You know, he is a little bit old school.”
