Huskies have become an incredibly popular dog breed here in the UK.

Even though Britain doesn’t look much like Siberia, people can’t get enough of the fluffy breed. According to Pets 4 Homes, there’s been a huge spike in people owning them in the last 20 years.

And today, the Siberian Husky has become the eighth most popular breed in the UK. It isn’t the only wolf-like breed available, though.

Will Atherton, a dog behaviour specialist, has a suggestion for those who are looking for a similar pup with beautiful white and grey fur. It’s rarer than the Husky and is often deemed to be a bit easier to handle due to its smaller size.

In a clip that’s garnered 24.5million likes on TikTok, the dog trainer advises husky fans to look into the Alaskan Klee Kai breed. He said: “This is why you should get this incredibly rare break – an Alaskan Klee Kai.”

The Alaskan Klee Kai is a small to medium-sized dog breed that originated in the United States, specifically developed to resemble a smaller version of the Alaskan Husky.

The breed was created in the late 20th century by Linda Spurlin and her family, who aimed to develop a companion-sized dog that retained the appearance of the Northern breeds without their large size.

Will said they can be a bit easier to manage than a typical Husky. He added: “The reality is the vast majority of people get breeds like this, or Huskies or Malamute is because of the way that they look, and they are woefully prepared for what that life will then entail.

“If you love the Siberian Husky and genuinely think that they may be the perfect fit for you, your family and lifestyle, however that’s slightly too big for you than the Alaskan Kee Kai could be for you.”

People appreciated Will’s advice and took to the comments section to leave their thoughts. One wrote: “I love my Klee Kais”. Another said: “I have one! Amazing dog! So smart!” A third remarked: “Wonderful breed.”

And a fourth added: “Omg I want one so bad! I grew up with huskies and have a husky mix right now and a Klee Kai will be my next because their personality and energy is incredible and make me move.”
