A 14-home development in Law was given the green light by councillors after assurances were given that developers would deal with the drainage problem at the site.
The houses are being built by Wilson Developments and the application came before the Planning Committee on Tuesday.
The site is vacant land comprising a mixture of scrub and semi-natural grassland
It falls within the settlement boundary of Law and is bounded to the south and east by dwellings, to the west by commercial and residential properties and to the north by vacant brownfield land, Station Row and a railway track. Access to the site is taken from St Andrews Drive.
The applicant sought permission for 14, two-storey, semi-detached dwellings, arranged around two spurs, either side of the main access from St Andrews Drive.
The houses would contain three bedrooms and would be finished in facing brick and tiles. A toddler play area would be positioned to the front of a turning head, between plots four and and five.
A wildlife corridor is to be established along the eastern boundary and trees planted in various locations throughout the site.
Clydesdale West councillor David Shearer said: “I have no objections to the application but have knowledge of the site and hope the applicants have done everything possible to alleviate the drainage problem as I have seen the site flooded with three to four feet of water.
“I don’t want the developer to walk away and when they go we have this problem to deal with.”
Officials told him that ensuring drainage in order was one of the conditions of granting the application.
The application was granted subject to conditions.
The developers have agreed to make contributions towards education requirements at: St Athanasius’ Primary, Carluke and Carluke High School along with nursery provision in the local area.
