Netflix fans have hailed ‘Carry-On’ as a successor to iconic action films like ‘Die Hard’, starring Sofia Carson in the role of Nora Parisi. Sofia Carson, an American actress and singer, first appeared on television with a guest slot on Disney’s ‘Austin and Ally’ back in 2014.
Her big break came as Evie in the hit series ‘Descendants’, propelling her to further stardom with a leading part in the Netflix feature ‘Purple Hearts’. In the realm of music, she made waves in 2015, both with the ‘Descendants’ soundtrack album and the release of her single ‘Rotten to the Core’.
The celebrated 31-year-old artist was born Sofia Lauren Daccarett Char, embracing both her father’s and mother’s surnames of Daccarett and Char, respectively. According to Spanish outlet Jetset, she adopted her stage name, Sofia Carson, as a tribute to her maternal grandmother, Lauraine Carson.
In May 2023, the star let her followers in on a special moment, sharing an image adorned with a necklace famously worn by Sophia Loren. She penned: “Sophia Loren wore this necklace, and today I had the honor of wearing it to walk the Cannes red carpet. My name is Sofia Lauren- my mom named me after Sophia Loren and my grandmother. Extraordinary forces of women. This is a moment I’ll cherish.”
Sofia celebrates her Floridian roots, with familial ties tracing back to Colombia where both parents originated. Prior to lighting up screens, she dedicated time to perfecting her craft at the In Motion Dance Studio, performing competitively across the United States, reports the Mirror.
When it comes to personal matters, Sofia has remained discreet, keeping her romantic relationships away from the glare of the media spotlight.
In a candid chat with Extra back in January 2022, she made it clear that her choice to shield her private life from the public eye was “absolutely intentional”.
She explained: “To me, it’s about my art and the music and the films that I put out into the world and not about my personal life.
“I still do love sharing personal moments that are special to me with fans, but it was definitely a choice to keep my private life private because it’s not what this is about for me. It’s about more than that.”
Speculation had been rife that she was romantically linked to Sofia Vergara’s son, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara.
The star of ‘Carry-On’ had uploaded, then removed, an Instagram post that captured them hand-in-hand, teasingly captioned “about last night.”
Adding to the whispers, in February 2018, Manolo posted a video on Instagram showing him playfully lifting Carson, which only added fuel to the fire regarding their supposed romance.
Yet, both parties have remained tight-lipped about the nature of their relationship. In a 2017 interview with Coveteur, she opened up about her trepidation towards falling in love.
She confessed: “My whole life I’ve been afraid of falling in love, just because that means being vulnerable and that you could get hurt.”
