Strictly Come Dancing’s Chris McCausland, a comedian by profession, is among the favourites to clinch this year’s title according to bookmakers.

The Liverpool-born funnyman, who is paired with professional dancer Dianne Buswell, has made history as the first blind contestant on the show. He lost his sight two decades ago due to retinitis pigmentosa, a genetic condition.

Before his vision deteriorated, Chris worked as a web designer but then decided to try his hand at stand-up comedy. He’s since become a familiar face on TV, appearing on popular comedy panel shows like Have I Got News For You and soap operas such as EastEnders.

But what about his life off-screen?

Let’s delve into his net worth, family life and the heartwarming support he’s received from his loved ones for his Strictly journey, reports Wales Online.

Chris McCausland is currently married to Patricia, and they are parents to an 11 year old daughter named Sophie. The couple’s paths crossed in 2005 when Chris was performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Patricia was there filming a documentary.

“We spent a lot of time together when the camera wasn’t running, socialising, going out and doing things, and we just had a lot of fun,” he shared. Chris remarked that Patricia was “full of energy” and pushed him beyond his usual boundaries while he, in turn, could always make her laugh and served as “almost this calming presence in her life that she was attracted to”.

Patricia hails from Brazil and is the source of “chaos” in their dynamic, Chris mentioned in a past conversation. Speaking to Gyles Brandreth on the Rosebud podcast, he recalled: “We were very opposite. She comes across as very British but she’s Brazilian, she came over when she was five or six. Her life is chaos in the way that Brazilian people are chaos.”

“It’s a natural attribute of their being that they are very proud of – they bring chaos to any room.”

Describing the cultural differences further, he recounted: “The number of times she’ll be talking in Portuguese to her mum and then I’ll say to her: ‘Are you okay? What happened there? ‘.”

Chris joked, “It sounds like they had the most horrific argument and they’re just talking about what they’re going to do that day.”

Chris McCausland recently spoke to The Guardian about how the birth of his daughter Sophie, now 11, changed his outlook on life.

He told the publication: “I’ve maybe been comfortable in my own skin and happy to be me.” Aside from getting older, Chris also attributes his confidence boost to the birth of his daughter.

“I think that really changes your outlook on life and yourself,” he explained. “Being a dad, you can’t just decide to find something else to do. I worried about it a lot, and there’s a lot of slack that my wife picks up, a lot of the logistical stuff.”

Chris also revealed that both he and his 11-year-old daughter were initially petrified when he accepted the Strictly challenge, but now she’s his biggest supporter, urging him to take home the win.

Reflecting on his journey, he said: “The fear was immense. I said no to this a few times because it was terrifying.

“I like a challenge, I like new things, I like being out of my comfort zone, but I need to know that I can do good and represent myself and represent other people well. There was a huge doubt about that.”
