BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – A local church gave out holiday essentials ahead of Christmas this year.

MapleView Church of Christ has banded together with local businesses, CASE WV Head Start, and Bay Area Community Church from Maryland for their annual Children’s Christmas Project to provide local children and their families with gifts and groceries. The Minister for MapleView, Jeremiah Holcomb, says that it’s great to see the community come together. “It’s neat to see in this season, and all seasons, when the churches can work together, when the community can work together in collaboration, the needs that we have around us can be met, but they’ll be met together,” said Holcomb. “So we’re excited to be a part and to play our part. We’re thankful to be a part of these communities that we’re in.”During the event, volunteers gathered to load up shopping carts with the items for each family, and helped them load it into their cars. CASE WV Head Start assisted MapleView in identifying some of the families in need. It’s Program Director, Tami Mitchell, said that events like this is what Christmas is about.“It’s just a great feeling. I think for me, this is what Christmas is about,” said Mitchell. It really does make people understand that giving is the best part about Christmas.”
