MESA, Ariz. (KPHO/Gray News) — An Arizona woman is looking for the community’s help after buying a VCR from a Mesa-area Goodwill and finding a VHS tape inside.
That tape shows a little boy and his family celebrating Christmas morning in the 1980s.
Destinee Johnson said she bought the VCR a few weeks ago from the Goodwill store near Power and McDowell roads.
Inside was a tape showing the life of a boy named Christopher and his family sharing memories of Christmas morning.
“I decided to bring it home and see what was on it, and when I got home and set everything up, I put it in, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, what did I find?’” Johnson said.
The tape was from December of 1989 and shares the excitement of Christopher checking out his new presents like a Ghostbuster proton blaster and airplane toys.
It also shares the journey of Christopher meeting his newborn baby brother, Taylor, for the first time.
“I think just being a mom it made me emotional thinking about not having something I think is a treasure. A little boy opening up his presents, meeting his brother, you know, it’s a treasure,” Johnson said.
Johnson said she’s been searching on social media and is on a mission to find a Christmas miracle to get this VHS tape back to Christopher and his family.
“I’m hoping the family sees it or someone that knows the family sees it. I’d just like to give it back to them if they see it and want it,” Johnson said.
If you recognize the family in the video, contact Johnson at [email protected].
