As the festive season approaches, many of us eagerly anticipate cosy nights in with a hot cuppa and a heart-warming Christmas film on telly.
There’s no place like home for the holidays, but have you ever fantasised about residing in one of those gorgeous homes featured in your favourite films?
You might want to think twice, as a recent study has unveiled the eye-watering current values of these properties.
From Home Alone to Elf, Hammonds Furniture has divulged the present worth of the festive residences that take centre stage in your beloved Christmas movies.
Look at how these holiday homes stack up in terms of value below, reports the Mirror.
The Holiday: California Mansion – £10,040,000
Since its premiere in 2006, the California Mansion owned by Cameron Diaz’s character, Amanda, tops the list as the priciest house in The Holiday.
Originally built by famous architect Wallace Neff, the sprawling seven-bedroom mansion would require a whopping £10,040,000 in 2024 to purchase.
The study reveals that it’s not the only famous homemade Christmas film that would cost a pretty penny. Five of the eight properties analysed in the study are currently valued at over £2million.
Home Alone: McCallister Household – £4,144,000
The famous Illinois house, defended by Kevin McCallister from burglars during the festive season in Home Alone, is currently on sale for over four million pounds, the equivalent of $5,250,000.
The Lincoln Avenue property has seen its value soar a whopping 373 percent since 1990, when it was sold for approximately £763k ($875,000).
Miracle on 34th Street: Susan’s Dream Home – £2,427,000
Susan’s dream house from the 1994 remake of the Christmas classic Miracle on 34th Street is a five-bedroom property complete with a swimming pool located on Washington Road, Lake Forest, Illinois. It is currently valued at £2,427,000.
Elf: Walter Hobbs’ Apartment – £2,404,000
No Christmas list would be complete without the beloved comedy Elf, featuring Will Ferrell as the endearing Buddy. The New York flat, owned by Buddy’s father Walter Hobbs, is situated in the coveted 55 Central Park West apartment blocks and is worth a fortune.
The two-bedroom property is currently valued at an enormous £2,404,000.
Love Actually: Peter and Juliet’s Notting Hill House £2,347,000
The unforgettable doorstep scene from Love Actually where Mark declares his love for Juliet using handwritten cards, is a sure-fire way to get into the holiday mood. However, the Notting Hill residence, home to Keira Knightley’s character, has seen its value skyrocket since the film’s 2003 release.
The distinctive pink façade of 27 St. Luke Mews is hard to miss and is now estimated at nearly £2.4 million, a whopping 253 percent increase from its £665,000 worth when the festive rom-com hit the screens.
Love Actually: Natalie’s House – £949,000
The beloved romantic comedy makes a second appearance on this list. Natalie’s terraced house, located in what is referred to as the ‘dodgy end of Wandsworth,’ also boasts a hefty price tag.
This property features in the scene where Hugh Grant’s Prime Minister character declares his love for Natalie at 102 Poplar Road in Herne Hill, situated in the not-so-dodgy Borough of Lambeth.
Currently valued at £949,000, the house has seen a staggering 318 percent increase since 2003, when it was worth £227,000.
The Holiday: Rosehill Cottage – £765,000
While the Californian mansion showcased in The Holiday is worth over nine million pounds, the other home central to the plot would now set you back £765,000.
Unfortunately, as Jude Law recently confessed, the residence of Kate Winslet’s character, Iris, doesn’t exist in real life, and its exterior was custom-built for the film.
However, the actual cottage that inspired the set designers, Honeysuckle Cottage, is nestled in Holmbury St Mary in Surrey.
The Nativity: Mr Maddens’ House – £447,000
Although the festive musical comedy, the Nativity! doesn’t feature properties as lavish as others on this list, Mr Maddens’ Kenilworth abode is currently valued at £447,00, making it one of the more affordable options on the list.
