Hollywood star Jamie Foxx needed stitches after he was allegedly glassed in the mouth on his birthday. The comedian and actor was injured following an altercation at a restaurant in Los Angeles, his spokesman said.
Foxx was at the Mr Chow restaurant in Beverly Hills on Friday as he turned 57 when a glass was thrown in his direction and “hit him in the mouth”. It comes as the Oscar-winning actor has recently made his comedy comeback with a new Netflix special following his recovery from a stroke last year.
Foxx’s spokesman said: “Jamie Foxx was at his birthday dinner when someone from another table threw a glass that hit him in the mouth. He had to get stitches and is recovering.
“The police were called and the matter is now in law enforcement’s hands.” His new programme, Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was… aired on Netflix last week, where he revealed he was fighting for his life in 2023 and briefly had to use a wheelchair while he learned how to walk again.
He also told viewers how his stroke had been caused by a “brain bleed”. Foxx said a doctor told his sister: “If I don’t go in his head right now, we’re going to lose him.”
He said he was then sent for surgery, and his sister “knelt down outside the operating room and prayed the whole time”. Foxx added: “Your life doesn’t flash before your face – it was kind of oddly peaceful.
“I say this all the time: ‘I saw the tunnel. I didn’t see the light.’ I was in that tunnel, though. It was hot in that tunnel.”
Foxx said the origin of his brain bleed was never discovered, and that he has no memory of 20 days of his illness. When he was first hospitalised after suddenly falling ill, Foxx did not reveal any details, with his family saying in April 2023 he was recovering from a “medical complication”.
