The warning from the SPFL over the use of pyro at the Premier Sports Cup final fell on deaf ears as Celtic and Rangers fans produced displays at Hampden.
The governing body issued a firm statement to both clubs before the showpiece at the national stadium with both of the Glasgow giants and Motherwell hit with charges by the SPFL over the behavour of fans during Premier Sports Cup semi-finals. Both games were hit with delays by the use of pyro with the Hoops’ clash with Aberdeen held up by 14 minutes before Rangers‘ clash with the Steelmen was subject to a five minute delay.
Going into Sunday’s showpiece event, the SPFL have warned that any displays could impact on the “ongoing disciplinary process” facing both clubs as the punters were told that “criminal charges and football banning orders” were on the table. But that failed to deter the use of pyro on Sunday.
Sections of both ends at Hampden unveiled pyro displays which would fill the national stadium with smoke. The limited vision led to another kick-off delay with the game held up for three minutes before referee John Beaton got the game underway and Celtic were allowed to begin the clash.
