With Christmas just around the corner, it’s officially pigs in blankets season. And if you’re looking for a new twist on this classic festive side dish, one food author might just have the recipe for you.
In her recent release, ‘The Ultimate Air Fryer Cookbook: One Basket Meals’, Clare Andrews. proposes a swift and sumptuous twist on the traditional holiday favourite. Andrews’ website proclaims: “Christmas dinner would not be complete without pigs in blankets.
“To make these air fryer pigs in blankets you need only minimal ingredients. And they are ready in just 20 minutes thanks to the speed of the air fryer. Using the air fryer makes this one of the easiest starters or side dishes to prepare for your Christmas dinner.
“They are easy enough to make in the oven but oven space can be really limited when cooking a large family roast dinner so use your air fryer. But pigs in blankets are way too delicious to be made only at Christmas to go with your roast turkey. Why not try making them as a tasty party snack? Or with your Sunday roast chicken or pork to make your lunch even more special all year round.”
The recipe is ingeniously straightforward, requiring just five minutes of prep time and 15 minutes of cooking. Designed to serve four as a side dish, it requires nothing more than an air fryer, a mixing bowl, and a brush, reports the Express.
Here’s how to whip up these air fryer pigs in blankets.
Air fryer pigs in blankets
Ingredients
- Eight rashers of streaky bacon
- Eight chipolata sausages
- One tablespoon of runny honey
- One heaped teaspoon of Dijon mustard
- Cooking spray
Method
- Begin by neatly wrapping each chipolata sausage in a slice of streaky bacon, rolling from one end to ensure they’re completely covered.
- Combine the runny honey and Dijon mustard in a bowl to create a glaze. Then, generously brush each sausage with the honey and mustard mixture.
- Bake your sausages at 180C for approximately 15 to 20 minutes, flipping them halfway through to ensure they are crispy all around.
- Ensure the sausages are thoroughly cooked before serving. If you’re using smaller sausages, they may require less cooking time.
- When turning the sausages halfway, if there’s any remaining glaze, feel free to brush it over the sausages.
