Tributes have been paid to a young man who has been described as ‘one in a million’ after his tragic death in a car crash on a Scots country road.
Lewis Chapman, 22, who had been a passenger in a grey Range Rover, was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash that happened around 8.25pm on the B6357 Annan-Canonbie-Jedburgh road in Dumfries and Galloway on Friday, December 13.
Another passenger, a 39-year-old man, was taken to Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle as a precaution. The driver of the car, a 38-year-old man, was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary for treatment.
Police said he was later arrested in connection with alleged road traffic offences and released pending further inquiries. Lewis has been described as ‘one in a million’ by devastated loved ones.
Angela Kay wrote: “Devastated for the family. Lewis was a lovely lad. He didn’t bother anyone and worked hard.”
Lizzi Devlin added: “Absolutely heartbroken for the family. R.I.P Lewis you will and always will be in my heart. You will always be the brightest star in the sky, always.”·
“Honestly, I can’t believe it,” Chelsea Farries said. “You were one in a million Lewis, always there to put a smile on my face when things were tough.”
Steven Mckell wrote: “A beautiful soul, gone far too soon! Rest easy Lewis.”
Johnny Hawes said: “So sorry to hear, such a gentle and kind lad, thoughts are with all the family.”
Police have appealed for eyewitnesses or drivers to hand in dash-cam footage. Sergeant Wayne Carnochan said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died and inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
“We are asking anyone who may have information to contact us. The road where the crash happened connects the town of Annan with the A74 motorway at Eaglesfield. If you were on this road around the time of the crash and have dash-cam footage that could assist with our investigation then please contact us.”
