BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ/Gray News) – A 6-year-old boy who loves Dunkin’ was honored after his creative Halloween costume caught the company’s attention.
River Crouch walked into his local Dunkin’ on Thursday and was greeted with a surprise.
For an hour, River got to work as an honorary crew member, complete with his very own custom uniform. He received a $500 gift card, a plaque in his honor and doughnuts made just for him.
“Dunkin’s all about spreading joy and positivity in our local communities, so when we came across this story, it was the perfect opportunity to highlight some really great positivity right here in Bedford, Virginia,” said Emilly Bartels, Dunkin’ Field Marketing Manager.
River’s love for Dunkin’ started with a Sunday tradition. Every Sunday, he and his mom Paige Crouch visit their local store for a treat.
“He’s a special little boy, and he makes everybody happy. To know we got to have a special day like this, it means a lot to us and him,” Crouch said.
River’s journey has not been an easy one.
He was born prematurely at 26 weeks and weighed just one pound. Before his first birthday, he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. He is now in kindergarten and loves school, spending time with friends and playing adaptive sports like baseball and soccer.
“I am so, so proud of him and everything he has accomplished so far this school year. It’s only been a few short months, and this is the smartest boy I’ve ever met,” said Mattison Drinkwater, River’s teacher.
Through multiple surgeries and countless hours of hard work, River continues to overcome every obstacle.
“He’s worked really hard to get where he is today. He’s overcome a lot, and I’m just proud of him and all he does,” Crouch said.
