A tiny village, deemed the “most beautiful” globally and boasting €1 million properties, lies merely a two-hour journey from the UK. Positioned within the breathtaking Osona region near Barcelona, Spain, Rupit i Pruit earned this esteemed title from the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

The village is encircled by a dramatic backdrop of mountains and dense forests. Characterized by its cobblestone streets and an eye-catching suspension bridge, the village is inhabited by approximately 300 residents, as reported by the Catalonia Statistics Institute.

Situated about 800 meters above sea level, the village’s traditional, narrow streets are inaccessible to modern vehicles. It features an array of charming stone houses, some of which date back over four centuries.

Comprising two villages, Rupit and Pruit, which maintained their independence until 1977, Rupit’s medieval origins are believed to date back to the 12th century, when prominent families resided in the area. The village connects to the old town via a suspension bridge and is close to Salent, home to Catalonia’s largest waterfall.

The historic quarter of Rupit i Pruit is distinguished by its 16th and 18th-century homes, along with some of the town’s most iconic buildings, featuring well-preserved stone facades, impressive gateways, and wooden balconies. The baroque-style Sant Miquel (Saint Michael) church stands as a commanding feature in the village, reports the Express.

Visitors can ascend to the bell tower for breathtaking panoramic views of the village. The main square is dotted with quaint shops, flower-laden balconies and historic buildings.

The 17th-century Hermitage of Santa Magdalena offers a serene spot to take in river views, according to Cope ES. However, those considering a move from the UK to Rupit i Pruit may face challenges.

Local property site Idealista lists only four homes for sale in the small village. One mid-20th century bourgeois property with nine bedrooms is on offer for around €1 million (£829,000).

It features three floors, an expansive garden with ponds and terraced flower beds, a tennis court, swimming pool, chapel and woodland. Another property, a 1700s farmhouse, needs full renovation and is listed at €600,000 (£497k).

It boasts six bedrooms and a large bathroom. A third home, priced at €389,000 (£320K), has three bedrooms and is conveniently located near the town centre.

The most affordable property is a two-bedroom home at €220,000 (£182K), offering stunning river views and a charming garden.
