Motorists have branded a collapsed manhole cover on a busy Scots street a “serious danger”.
The issue on Petersburn Road in Airdrie, at its junction with Minch Way, was spotted by Jamie Canavan, who runs Facebook group Potholes Make Glasgow, at around 11am on Monday morning, reports Glasgow Live.
It is understood that two cars have had their tyres ‘slashed,’ and locals in the North Lanarkshire town are fearful that someone could get hurt have urged North Lanarkshire Council to ‘fix this immediately’.
Jamie explained : “This is a serious danger to motorists and pedestrians alike. This has to be addressed immediately to avoid any further damages or accidents.”
After sharing the post on the social media group, members were quick to react with their concerns.
One wrote: “That is unbelievable, it’s a killer.”
Another said: “They are lucky it’s only punctures, that could write a car off.”
A third wrote: “Absolute death trap for motorcycles that.”
While a fourth explained: “It was reported first thing this morning (December 16) and now it’s worse.”
A spokesperson for North Lanarkshire Council said: “We reported the issue to Scottish Water as an emergency and they have made the manhole safe and displayed appropriate signage.”
