Police used a taser gun on a man who came towards them with a hunting knife.
Hamilton Sheriff Court heard that Matthew McCann subjected the officers to verbal abuse and threats.
McCann, 30, admitted threatening or abusive behaviour and possession of a blade at The Bield, Wishaw, on September 20.
John Coogan, prosecuting, said police and ambulance workers were called to the scene around midnight after a report that an injured man was carrying a knife.
They found McCann who had blood on his top. He began to “shout and swear incoherently”, took a large knife from his pocket and refused to drop it as he walked towards the police officers.
Mr Coogan told the court: “One officer drew a taser and, as the accused would not engage, this was discharged.
“As a result the accused fell to the grass and officers were able to remove the knife from his hand.
“He was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he continued to be abusive, shouting at one officer ‘I’m going to take your f*****g nose off’.
“In all, six officers were required to control him.”
Defence lawyer Scott Jones said his client had a “very difficult” background and struggled with “horrendous” drug and alcohol problems.
Sheriff Scott Pattison deferred sentence until next month for background reports and McCann was remanded in custody.
