Scots have been left in stiches after John Lewis revealed a new £242 table lamp on their website – called ‘Jobby The Cat’.

A post on social media went viral when it was suggested the department store should maybe hire a Scot in their marketing team due to the comedic name. The black and white cat lamp has been created by Seletti, an Italian design brand that creates homeware and accessories “that combine art and industrial design with a sense of humour and fantasy”.

The description suggests “Jobby can travel from room to room like any typical feline”, adding “he is rechargeable and his eyes light up when you push his magic gold-coloured button”. Shoppers have been in hysterics at the bizarre product and its brilliant name, which is famously an informal word – north of the border – for a number two.

Posting on X/Twitter, John Kilbride said: “If there’s any Scottish people looking for a job in branding or marketing, I think there’s a vacancy at John Lewis because there’s clearly no Scottish person working there at the moment.”

The post has since gone viral, being viewed over 200,000 times and has received floods of hilarious comments. Denumerabl said: “Nice to see a wee jobby on the coffee table.”

Laura said: “I like to think that there’s a Scottish marketing executive who’s going to dinner with their family/friends this Christmas saying ‘you’ll never believe what I convinced them to name the cat…'”

The Vile Maxim said: “I was in the lighting dept of John Lewis in Glasgow the other day. Didn’t spot any jobbies on display! Did the Glasgow branch spot the potential embarrassment and kept their jobbies hidden in the run up to Xmas? Maybe put them out with a huge mark down in the New Year sales?”

Jim Lex said: “This surely was the Scottish work experience kid seeing what they could get away with! Bravo!”

Penny Barr added: “120k views .. maybe those branding folks aren’t so daft…,” while Graham Orr piped in: “Black and white jobby? That cat needs to see a vet.”

John Lewis did not respond to the Record’s request for a comment on the product.
