Albion Rovers boss Sandy Clark was pleased to see goals spread throughout his side, as they battered Gretna 5-0 to get back to winning ways in the Lowland League.

Goals from Dom McMahon and Peter Mendy had Rovers 2-0 up and cruising against Gretna at Cliftonhill on Saturday, with Kai Kirkpatrick sealing the points two minutes into the second half.

Nathan Brown added a fourth with 19 minutes left, and sub Adam McMillan put gloss on the scoreline with an 80th-minute header.

Rovers responded well to last week’s frustrating 2-2 draw with Tranent, but Clark isn’t getting carried away and says “there’s a poor performance not that far away”.

Clark said: “It was a good performance. I actually thought we played the week before when we drew 2-2 with Tranent, but the difference was we didn’t make any mistakes, defensively, and managed to be a bit more clinical in front of goal.

“The overall performance was very similar, so it was pleasing.

“The guys worked hard, stuck to the game-plan and got the rewards for it.

“It’s pleasing to get goals from five different players. It doesn’t matter where the goals come from, at the end of the day, but it’s nice when you get people doing well and being a goal threat.

“Dom McMahon is in a good vein of form, he’s playing further up the pitch and getting goals, and Peter Mendy, I think that was his 10th league goal, so that’s a good step forward for him.

“It was all the forward-type players that scored, Adam McMillan came on as a sub and scored a really good header as well, so it was pleasing all round and I’m pleased for the guys.”

The Cliftonhill side now face Cowdenbeath on Saturday and follow up their trip to Fife with a visit to East Kilbride on December 28, before Mick Kennedy’s men first-foot them on January 4, and Rovers travel to Caledonian Braves seven days later.

“Cowdenbeath away from home, they’ll be fighting and scratching for points and East Kilbride will be a real challenge for two games in a row.

“We’ll look at Saturday first, hope we can do well, and that will take us into the EK games with a bit of confidence.

“Hopefully we can keep our run going, but I know in my time at Albion Rovers that you can never get carried away, because there’s a poor performance not that far away.”

• Albion Rovers will hold their AGM on December 19 at Coatbridge Community Centre from 7-9pm.
