The Christmas price war is officially on, with supermarkets slashing the cost of festive fresh vegetables to just pennies this week.

Morrisons is the latest to enter the race, as the firm has confirmed when its own price cuts will arrive. Starting from tomorrow, Thursday, December 19, shoppers will be able to bag festive veggies for just 10p.

Available to More loyalty card members until Christmas Eve (December 24) the deal has slashed the cost of four Christmas dinner trimmings we can’t live without – British carrots (1kg), British parsnips (500g), Brussel sprouts 500g) and a whole British swede.

If you can’t live without the classic roasties, or even mash, then a large 2kg bag of British white potatoes has been slashed by half-price to just £1.15 for all customers. The discount on the potatoes is available to shop in store now until January 1.

Fraser Lovatt, Category Director of Produce & Horticulture at Morrisons, said: “No Christmas dinner is complete without all the trimmings of the seasonal vegetables. By cutting the costs of products like carrots, parsnips, sprouts and potatoes, we are helping customers get all they need for the perfect festive roast without breaking the bank.

“Selling more of these products also stops them from going to waste and enables us to give more back to our important network of British farmers.”

It’s not the only Christmas dinner deal available to Morrisons customers, as shoppers can also find a Market Street Whole Salmon reduced by 50 percent to just £7.40, down from £15, in stores until January 1.

Looking to celebrate the festivities with a glass of bubbly? Then More card members can pick up a 75cl bottle Charles De Villiers Champagne Brut for £12.50, or a bottle of Sorso Prosecco Spumante for just £4.75.

It isn’t just Morrisons that is slashing the cost of Christmas vegetables this week. Starting from tomorrow, numerous retailers such as Aldi, Lidl, Asda and Sainsbury’s will be reducing the cost of their own fresh trimmings.
