Netflix has just released the trailer for season two of XO Kitty and fans cannot contain their excitement about an unexpected star set to return to the series.
The show, a spin-off of the popular To All The Boys series, follows Kitty Song Covey, played by Anna Cathcart, as she navigates her life in Seoul, Korea. The first season saw Kitty relocate to be with her long-distance boyfriend Dae and attend the same high school as her late mother.
However, things got complicated when she developed feelings for Yuri, a popular girl at school. According to Anna Cathcart, the show is “really about Kitty learning that love can look a lot of different ways and that it’s not something that you necessarily can figure out super easily.”
The season one finale ended with Kitty seeing Yuri with her new girlfriend, but the trailer for season two suggests that Kitty is ready to move on and explore the dating world. She’s also determined to “finally discover who my mum really was”, reports the Manchester Evening News.
In a surprise twist, fan favourite Peter Kavinsky from the To All The Boys series makes an appearance in the trailer, surprising Kitty in Seoul. In a heartwarming moment, Peter tells Kitty: “You are Kitty Song freakin’ Covey. Don’t you forget it” before embracing her in a hug.
Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their excitement over the latest entertainment news, with one stating: “PETER KAVINSKY??? lord thank you for almost bringing my family back together now all we need is Lara Jean.” Another joined in the frenzy, sharing: “PETER KAVINSKY?! had me giggling, kicking my feet.”
The excitement continued as a third exclaimed: “I JUST FELL TO MY KNEES OMFG.” Yet another viewer gushed: “Oh my gosh, I can’t wait! This is going to be the best season yet!”
Debate on who should be the ultimate pair in the show has sparked amongst viewers. One insisted: “Team Minho”, while another professed support by commenting “we will be seated for them”, and yet another anticipatory fan posted “Minho and Kitty endgame when!!!”
There’s also a faction rooting for an alternative romance, eager to see Kitty’s potential storyline with Yuri, as indicated by one user: “‘I’m not over Yuri’ I SCREAMED” and backed by another who declared: “Kittyuri endgame.”
Devotees became invested in season one, with many watching the entire series in days. One IMDB reviewer shared: “I wanted to watch this because I enjoyed To All The Boys and liked the fact it was a series. I then ended up bingeing the series in 24 hours! It had a great storyline and had great characters (I loved them all) and I really enjoyed the LGBT representation which was done well and I wasn’t really expecting!”
Showrunner Jessica O Toole, famed for her work on Charmed, talked about the impact of Noah Centineo returning as Peter Kavinsky: “It was amazing to watch Anna and Noah together on set; they have so much love and respect for each other and you can feel it in their scenes together. This season of ‘XO, Kitty’ is about where Kitty is going but also where she came from.”
She teased fans further by remarking that this season would include “some big moments fans have been waiting for and others they will never see coming.”
XO Kitty season 2 will be available to stream on Netflix from January 16
