PRINCETON, W. Va. – Your purchase of homemade Christmas decorations can help support people in the area trying to put their life back together following addiction. It’s all thanks to the faith-based program, “Adult and Teen Challenge,” who give those wanting to take control of their lives the skills they need to function in society, from interpersonal to hands-on skills
Those in the one-year program put what they learned into practice every Christmas season, making wreathes from tree branches to sell to the community. You can find them set up set up on Stafford Drive in Princeton on Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
However, the program director for Adult and Teen Challenge Appalachian Region, Brad Rose, says this is more than a fundraiser, with the money raised coming second to their community outreach.
“They’re coming out in the community, these guys, and they see how much the people are really behind them. You know, a lot of people’s given up on people who have addiction problems and kind of kicked them to the curb I guess you could say, but these guys are seeing, ‘hey man, not only are they telling me on campus that… not only are the staff telling me that the community is behind me and they’re behind me,’ but they’re actually seeing it first hand, so it’s a great thing,” says Rose.
