YOLO COUNTY, Calif. (Gray News) – A horse was rescued from the basement of an abandoned grain silo in California after it fell through a hole just 22 inches wide.
In a Facebook post, the Sonoma Valley Animal Emergency Response Team said it worked together with several agencies to rescue the mare named Matsie.
The incident happened at a grain silo in Yolo County, near Sacramento.
Photos from the rescue team show Matsie ducking her head in the dark basement, which has a low ceiling.
Rescuers used a specialized animal tripod and a large harness to hoist Matsie back up through the very narrow opening she had fallen through.
The Sonoma Valley Animal Emergency Response Team said Matsie was “thankful to be out and play again with her friends.”
The Yolo County Animal Services Shelter, who also aided in the rescue, said in a Facebook post, “Teamwork makes the dream work! Thank you so much to every org involved with this incredible rescue.”
