WASHINGTON — A new trailer has dropped for James Gunn’s latest crack at the superhero genre, showing off David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Superman.

The trailer opens with Superman falling into an icy plain, clearly wounded and bleeding. As music begins to rise, the teaser cuts between him struggling to rise and his life as Clark Kent, the mild-mannered reporter who serves as his alter ego.

There’s a bit of romance between him and fellow reporter Lois Lane, played by Rachel Brosnahan, and a few glimpses of Superman saving the day.

The trailer doesn’t give too many plot details, but fans can catch glimpses of Hawkgirl, somebody wielding a Green Lantern ring and Nicholas Hoult’s villainous Lex Luthor.

But the best part, by far, was the caped canine himself: Krypto the Superdog comes to rescue Superman after he has crashed into a field of snow while fighting an unknown villain.

“Take me home,” Kent whispers to the dog, who is also wearing a red cape, as it drags him by his garments away from where he fell.

Marvel fans will know James Gunn as the director of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, widely held as some of the best films in the MCU.

DC, the brand behind Superman and other superheroes such as Batman and Wonder Woman, has struggled to follow in the footsteps of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the DC films failing to garner the same amount of audience and critical acclaim as the Avengers and their allies.

The trailer for Superman doesn’t actually advertise as much in the clip itself. Instead, the end of the video shows a logo for “DC Studios,” indicating that Gunn’s Superman may be the first in a cinematic universe of DC superhero films.

Superman is set to release on July 11.
