Police are treating the death of a man who died in a house fire in the Highlands as unexplained.
Emergency services raced to a property on West Banks Terrace in Wick on Wednesday, December 19 at around 1.20pm following reports of a fire.
The road was subsequently taped off to enable fire, ambulance and police to attend.
Police Scotland has confirmed a man has died, and his next of kin has been made aware.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) Area Commander Michael Humphreys is the Local Senior Officer for Highland. He said:
“We were alerted at 12.57pm on Wednesday, 18 December to reports of a dwelling fire within a property on West Banks Terrace, Wick.
“Operations Control immediately mobilised the two closest appliances and firefighters worked to extinguish the fire.
“Sadly, one man was found to have passed away at the scene. Our thoughts remain with all those affected at this difficult time.
“A joint investigation between Police Scotland and SFRS will be carried out in due course.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1.20pm on Wednesday, 18 December, 2024, we were called to a report of a fire at a property in West Banks Terrace, Wick.
“The fire was extinguished by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
“The body of a man was found within and next of kin are aware.
“His death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
