Jacqueline Mendoza-Ramirez is currently being held in Travis County Jail without bond.

AUSTIN, Texas — A 21-year-old woman has been charged with capital murder following the death of her 6-week-old son.

Jacqueline Mendoza-Ramirez was booked into Travis County Jail late Wednesday night after an investigation into her son’s death.

According to the Austin Police Department (APD), on Nov. 27, Mendoza-Ramirez took her son to the hospital because he wasn’t breathing. Hospital staff tried to save the infant’s life, but he died at the hospital.

Police were called to the hospital to investigate and found several traumatic injuries to the baby’s body. After notifying Child Protective Services (CPS), both parents were interviewed, leading to an arrest warrant being issued.

Mendoza-Ramirez was arrested the same day the warrant was issued. She’s currently being held in jail without bond.

Her son’s death is being investigated as Austin’s 66th homicide of 2024.
