Arne Slot admits he’d love to see Ange Postecoglou lift a trophy with Tottenham – as long as it’s not the League Cup.

Liverpool have been drawn against Ange’s success-starved Spurs as the ex-Celtic boss attempts to end the North London club’s agonising 16-year wait for silverware. Slots’ table-topping Reds sit 13 points clear of their Carabao Cup semi-final rivals but the Dutchman has nothing but admiration for his Premier League counterpart and the style of football that has transformed Tottenham into the most entertaining team in the country.

Slot’s relentless Liverpool are competing across all four fronts as they target a domestic Treble and Champions League glory. But the ex-Feyenoord boss hopes Postecoglou is rewarded at the end of the season with a famous Europa League triumph. He said: “Interesting game but every draw would have been interesting with four top teams still in the draw. There was not an easy one.

“really have to give them credit because If I look at Tottenham, I think about Tottenham There’s always been a certain brand of football and I think Postecoglou gives them that Identity back completely. Every time it is a joy to watch them.

“Sometimes results go against them but they were one of the teams that beat Man City. Not everyone did it in the manner that we did. Great work Ange is doing there, I hope it’s being seen there. I really hope he wins a trophy. Not the league cup but I’m a fan of his team for the Europa League.

“People always talk about trophies, that is so important, for me his brand of football is so much more important. If he can combine that with winning something that would be so good for football in general. Then people can stop talking about his football being too attacking. How on earth can you play ‘too attacking’ football?”
