The NYPD is beefing up security at holiday markets around the city in response to a deadly attack that targeted a Christmas market in Germany on Friday.

“We are closely monitoring recent events in Germany and coordinating with our partners,” tweeted Rebecca Weiner, NYPD deputy commissioner of intelligence and counterterrorism. “While we have not identified any specific or credible threats to NYC at this time, resources have been deployed to various Christmas markets and other locations out of an abundance of caution.”

The German attack saw a black BMW roar at high speed into a crowded Christmas market in the town of Magdeburg, leaving at least two dead and 68 injured, the Guardian reported.

The news from the NYPD should come as a relief to the thousands of holiday shoppers expected to flood seasonal markets staged in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx that run daily until Dec. 24.
