As the winter chill continues to bite, you might find yourself daydreaming about your 2025 holidays. If you’re in search of some winter sun, Malta could be just the ticket.
This European hotspot is known for its mild climate even during the colder months, making it an ideal destination for couples seeking a romantic escape or families wanting a fun-filled getaway.
With an average February temperature of 16C, it’s no wonder that Condé Nast Traveller has listed Malta as one of their top picks for a February holiday. While it may not be the hottest month, it’s still warm enough to enjoy all that this beautiful island has to offer without the summer crowds.
The travel gurus at Condé Nast have praised Malta, saying: “Malta basks in some of the balmiest temperatures of any European destination, so even winter brings short-sleeve weather ideal for exploring the island.”
They added: “While the beaches are Malta’s draw throughout the extended summer, the cooler months are all about culture and hitting personal-best step counts.”
Despite its compact size, Malta is home to three UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Cultural Capital City of Valletta, the awe-inspiring Ħal-Saflieni Hypogeum, and seven magnificent Megalithic Temples, reports the Express.
A visit to Valetta is a must for any traveller to Malta. In 2018, Valetta was crowned the European Capital of Culture, and it’s easy to see why with its stunning architecture and the breathtaking Barrakka Gardens.
Valetta’s rich history dates back to the 1500s. The island was founded by the Knights of St John and later named after Frenchman Jean Parisot de Valette who successfully defended the island against an Ottoman invasion.
Malta is famed for its breathtaking beaches, and while February might not be ideal for a swim, coastal strolls along the aptly named Pretty Bay are a must.
History buffs should make a beeline for the Ħal Tarxien Prehistoric Complex, home to temple remains dating back to 3,600 BC. Families travelling with kids can head to Popeye Village, built for the 1979 film, boasting a massive lido, water trampolines, and exciting boat trips.
With flights from the UK to Malta taking just three to four hours, you’ll soon be basking in the winter sun, escaping the chilly British weather.
