A man has appeared in court charged with committing various terrorism offences in Scotland following an investigation by Police Scotland.
Danyil Demchuk was detained by officers and held in police custody before appearing in the dock for a hearing at Paisley Sheriff Court on Friday, December 20, 2024.
The 21-year-old, who is understood to be a Ukrainian refugee faced four charges under the same section of the Terrorism Act 2000.
The section states that “a person commits an offence if” they “collect or make a record of information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism“.
The section in question – 58(1)(a/b) – also states that it is an offence for someone to be in possession of “a document or record containing information of that kind”.
Demchuk, of Motherwell, Lanarkshire, appeared in private at Paisley Sheriff Court yesterday afternoon. He made no plea to the four charges against him.
The case was continued for prosecutors to investigate further and he was released on bail. No future court dates have been set, but he is expected to go on trial over the claims at some point next year.
