AUSTIN, Texas — We’re tracking a really interesting weather week here in Central Texas, and it all starts with a pleasant University of Texas game day before rain chances return for next week as we head into Christmas.
Here’s a look at things.
UT game day
Clemson has arrived in Austin to take on the Longhorns in their first-ever home College Football Playoff game. For this occasion, it’s going to be an excellent day with temperatures at kickoff in the lower 60s under perfectly sunny skies.
There could be some extra traffic around downtown and the UT campus, so it’s encouraged you arrive at the stadium early. Pat Green will be at Longhorn City Limits around 11 a.m. Once you get there, be LOUD for our Longhorns as they take the field and hopefully end the afternoon with a win!
Rain chances next week
After a warmer and muggier Sunday, we’re tracking rain chances that will increase with the temperatures as we head into Christmas Eve. This is a result of a frontal system coming in from the northwest that will allow for a good lifting mechanism, especially later Christmas Eve – so Santa’s flight through Central Texas could be a bit turbulent.
We’re closely tracking model trends for how much rain some areas might get. Currently, the European model, which is typically more accurate, has Central Texas getting a widespread 1.5 inches of rain, which would be massively beneficial for areas east of Interstate 35 that are in the “moderate” to “severe” drought category. However, the American GFS model isn’t as confident in those totals, but still forecasts around an inch for most spots in Central Texas.
