A devastated dad-of-three has paid tribute to his mum and says she ‘meant everything to him.’
Robbie Dale, 29, lost his mum Gillian Woods, 54, in 2021 when she died after a year long battle with bowel cancer.
Unfortunately Robbie was unable to cover the cost of a headstone for his mum’s grave due to being a young dad and he says he carries a sense of guilt over this, reports Edinburgh Live.
Now, the East Lothian dad has decided to create a fundraiser to cover the costs. He is hoping to raise £2500 and says it would ‘mean to the world’ to him if people helped him raise funds to buy a headstone.
He described his mum as a woman who ‘did everything’ for him and went above and beyond in creating special memories with her children.
“She meant everything to me, she did everything for me,” he said. “She was a special woman who looked after my three brothers and me while we were growing up.
“My mum suffered a stroke when she was around 35, but she never let that stop her. Her children were always her number one priority. I remember her taking me to the arcades in Portobello when I was younger.
“She would take me and my brothers to play pool as well as the zoo which were good family days out. Unfortunately she had a fall and broke her hip on here right hand side which stopped her from being able to do as much.
“Life changed dramatically after this and we had to start looking after my mum a bit more. Sadly she was diagnosed with cancer in 2020 and died a year later in 2021.
“I feel awful I’ve left it this long to try to get a headstone, she deserves one. It would mean the world to me to get her one.
“Unfortunately we have had to fundraise as I’ve had financial problems and I don’t make much money as well as having three young kids.”
