Warning – this article contains major spoilers for Virgin River season 6.

Virgin River left fans with a thousand burning questions at the end of season six as the finale concluded with a shocking twist.

After Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) tied the knot with a beautiful wedding ceremony, they realise Jack’s ex Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) is missing.

Throughout the latest outing of the hit Netflix drama, she’s been struggling with the advances of local criminal Calvin (David Cubbit), who discovered he’s the father of her twins and wants to be a part of their life.

In the final minutes of the latest episode, Jack heads to Charmaine’s place when they realise she was a no-show at the wedding and she hasn’t been seen for several hours, only to discover it ransacked.

When he opens the door to a room with an eerie lullaby playing he appears shocked at what he sees inside and the episode cuts to black.

But what exactly did Jack witness? Some fans immediately jumped to the conclusion that Charmaine could be injured or even dead and the babies taken by Calvin.

However, what if it’s the other way round? Viewers have taken to Reddit to share their surprising theories.

“I’m thinking Charmaine is dead and babies are with Calvin. They were definitely foreshadowing it,” one commenter said, although they quickly reconsidered.

“Unless Charmaine staged the house to make it seem like something happened and ran away with the babies,” they proposed. “Somewhere where Calvin can’t find them.”

Another fan predicted: “No one is in the bedroom. To get away from Calvin, Charmaine took the babies to Oregon where her aunt lives and previously offered for her to bring the twins and live with her.”

While others suggested a rather more violent outcome. “Charmaine and Calvin had a fight, he died, she took kids and run away… and Jack found his body,” one comment said.

“I was thinking Charmaine standing over Calvin’s body holding a gun? Or just the body and an empty apartment,” someone else suggested.

And a final fan wrote: “I think he saw a body. And I think it will be Calvin, I think Charmaine will go to prison and she asks Mel and Jack to take care of the twins.

“(I think they will end up with three kids, including the baby from the surrogate mother).”

Just before Jack’s discovery, another bombshell hit Virgin River in the form of Marley (Rachel Drance), who reveals to Mel that the couple who were going to adopt her unborn child has dropped out and she wants her and Jack to take care of the baby instead.

If Charmaine has indeed killed Calvin and made off with the twins, she could be caught and have to serve time behind bars, leaving Mel and Jack with a difficult decision to make about the future of their relationship.

Until season seven is released, don’t expect any answers from Henderson, as the showrunners recently revealed not even he knew what he was supposed to be looking at.

Patrick Sean Smith told TVLine: “Martin did not actually know what he was seeing.

“It’s a testament to his acting talent that he was able, in a single look, to create several possible outcomes of what he was seeing. At one point, I was like, ‘Guys, what if we come back in this moment and it’s just like a Peloton? Maybe Jack didn’t know she had a Peloton!’

“But yeah, Charmaine has found herself in the middle of a mess again, which is where her character tends to reside.”

Virgin River season 6 is available to stream on Netflix.
