Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United press conference was embarrassingly interrupted by a leaking ROOF inside Old Trafford.
It was a dismal afternoon for the Red Devils as they crashed to a humiliating 3-0 home defeat to Ryan Christie’s Bournemouth, plummeting to 13th in the table – an astonishing 17 points adrift of leaders and arch-rivals Liverpool. It means United have already lost a staggering seven Premier League games as their season goes from bad to worse despite getting rid of flop boss Erik ten Hag.
Amorim – who will come up against Philippe Clement in next month’s Europa League showdown against Rangers at the Theatre of Dreams – will be given time to turn things around. But aside from a derby win at Man City, results haven’t really improved under the Portuguese boss, who is expected to splash the cash when the January transfer window opens.
Amorim’s post-match sit-down with journalists just about summed up the problems at United as the presser was held up due to leaking water from the ceiling. Manchester Evening News reporter Samuel Luckhurst shared footage of the water dripping while the BBC’s Simon Stone admitted he had to move seats. He said: “Leak from ceiling of media conference room during Ruben Amorim’s press conference. Water dripped down on front row of journos. I had to switch seats.”
The sorry state of Old Trafford is one of countless issues Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS will have to tackle head on as United plunge from one embarrassing episode to another. Rival fans regularly taunt the 13-time Premier League winners by chanting “Old Trafford is falling down”, with the stadium suffering similar leaking issues whenever there’s heavy rainfall.
And unsurprisingly, merciless social media users were quick to mock the fallen English giants on X, with one person saying: “The club is literally falling apart.” Another pointed out: “Sacked staff. Made them all work from offices. Deduction in pay and steward allowances yet they cannot fix leaks either in defence or their stadium.” A third added: “Ceiling leaking, defence leaking, line up leaking… United can’t be helped.”
