Gladiator star and BBC sensation Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, better known as Nitro from the Gladiator series, is all set to dazzle viewers in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing Christmas extravaganza. Speaking with BBC Breakfast hosts Jon Kay and Sally Nugent, Harry brimmed with enthusiasm about his upcoming stint.
Despite nursing an injury, he shared how much fun it was to be part of the show, telling the presenters: “I came in with an injury, so I was a little bit cautious as to what I could do, so Nancy and the team, they just worked around me, did what I could do and I just gave it my all.”
Keen to radiate positivity during his performance, Harry emphasised his aim to convey his lively spirit, stating: “Yeah, it’s all good, like I said the team looked after me and that’s what is so important about the whole production itself. They’re thinking about how they can make you shine and I think I was able to do that.”
When nudged for a sneak peek at his routine, Harry didn’t disclose too much but hinted at some enthralling lifts, adding: “I can say it’s high energy, it’s one of them things that will make you want to get up out of your seat. Most importantly, it enables me to show who I am, that’s what dance is. Dance is an expression of who you are.”
BBC Breakfast viewers were treated to a snippet of Harry’s performance on the special, leaving Jon Kay impressed by his dynamic dance moves, reports the Mirror.
The host exclaimed: “You’re good! Because it’s a one-off Christmas special, I didn’t know how long you’d have to train or for how many weeks. But, you look like you’re having the time of your life, you’re brilliant!”
In their conversation, the star of Gladiator disclosed his adoration for Strictly, stating: “I’ve always wanted to perform in that setting, so I saw my opportunity and I just went for it.”
This year, Harry is set to strut his stuff on the dance floor with other celebrities including Josh Widdicombe, Tayce, Billy Monger and Vogue Williams.
The BBC received a statement from Harry about his participation in the Christmas special: “I’ve always wanted to be a part of the Strictly family from a very young age. I’ve always enjoyed watching the athlete contestants and finding new ways to move your body.”
He added: “I have so much respect for the pros as they’re athletes in their own right. Learning a new skill is always something that I appreciate too and I’m always up for the challenge.”
