On Monday’s episode of Good Morning Britain, there was a significant ‘breaking news’ segment from the Office for National Statistics.

During the show, presenters Kate Garraway and Ed Balls turned to Political Correspondent Louisa James for a crucial update on the UK’s financial health, who announced that GDP has been downgraded to zero.

The UK economy recorded no growth in the third quarter, revised down from an initial estimate of 0.1%, the Office for National Statistics said.

Louisa said: “These figures that have come out just in the last couple of minutes which show that in the months from July to September, the economy actually flatlined, growth was zero, it had been predicted to be 0.1%, so a small difference but a significant one!”

The Office for National Statistics said that UK gross domestic product (GDP) showed no growth between July and September, in the run up to the Autumn budget. Statisticians had previously estimated 0.1% growth for the quarter. Following the breaking news, Ed explained what the statistics meant back in the ITV studio.

In other news, Kate, 57, enjoyed a festive get-together with Susanna Reid and their former Good Morning Britain colleague Piers Morgan earlier this week. They were celebrating at Piers’ annual Christmas party gathering, reports the Mirror.

At the event held at the Scarsdale Tavern in Kensington, London, Kate appeared alongside her two children, Darcey, 18, and Billy, 15. Joining them were fellow Good Morning Britain personalities such as Charlotte Hawkins, Richard Madeley, and Laura Tobin, among others at the holiday shindig.

Former ITV host Piers was seen enjoying a festive moment with his old colleagues at the glittering showbiz event. Piers, 59, has kept up friendships with his former co-workers despite his high-profile departure from Good Morning Britain (GMB) in 2021, having been a part of the team since 2015.

Piers made headlines when he dramatically left GMB in 2021, following an on-air walkout that marked the end of his six-year tenure.

In other news, Susanna, the lead presenter of Good Morning Britain, is currently enjoying her Christmas break. Wrapping up an earlier episode this month, she expressed her gratitude: “Ending on a positive note, our amazing 1 Million Minutes campaign – I just want to say thank you to everybody who has pledged their minutes to the campaign.”

She added a personal farewell before her holiday: “We have a special programme on Christmas Day but this is my last chance to say thank you to you before Christmas because it is my last programme before Christmas Day. Good Morning Britain back tomorrow from 6am. Have a happy Christmas from me, I’ll see you on Christmas Day.”

Good Morning Britain continues and airs every week day at 6am on both ITV and ITV X.
