A Christmas card for down under was spectacularly misdelivered in Perth … despite being addressed for someone 10,000 miles away in Perth, Western Australia.
One bemused Fair City resident was shocked to find the festive mail on her door step meant for someone in Kalamunda in Oz.
Amy Condon of Viewlands, who received a letter with an address in Kalamunda, near Perth, Western Australia, told the Perthshire Advertiser: “Our first reaction was disbelief and confusion.
“Other than the word Perth and the house number, our address doesn’t remotely match the address on the letter.
“The postage looked wrong and there wasn’t an airmail sticker, so that maybe explains why it didn’t go to Australia, but not why on Earth it came through our letterbox?”
Amy posted the letter on social media and other Fair City residents shared examples of mailing mix ups with the city on the other side of the world which shares the same name.
In examples of topsy turvy blunders, one Perth poster said they handed mail for Perth Australia back to a postie who told them there had been many similar misdelivered mails.
Another mentioned an example from last year – a card for a North Muirton address which had been to Perth, Australia, and back – with just a second class stamp on it.
And a further Fair City social media poster said they had received a card addressed to Perth, Western Australia, which they sent back to its intended recipient who in turn sent them a lovely thank you.
A Royal Mail spokesperson said this week: “We deliver up to 35 million letters a day during December and on very rare occasions, such as these instances, mistakes do happen.
“Usually, any errors made by our mail sorting machines are quickly identified by our teams and corrected.
“We will raise awareness of these examples within the local delivery office.”
