CYPRESS, Texas (KHOU) – A Texas woman is lucky to be alive after she crashed her car into a 40-foot trench at a construction site.

Video of the Friday incident shows the 33-year-old woman appears to have missed a turn before she went airborne and crashed into the 40-feet-deep hole during the overnight hours in Cypress.

She was rescued hours later after construction crews found her car, which was completely vertical in the trench.

The woman was flown to the hospital and was said to be alert and talking.

“She’s doing OK right now. She’s just kind of scared,” said a relative who didn’t want to be identified. “I was surprised she was alive because of the way the car was messed up and stuff. I was very surprised, but I’m so grateful.”

Damage to the woman’s car was extensive.

A similar crash happened at the site in September. An inspection team with the Texas Department of Transportation is looking at ways they can make the area safer.
