Josh Rock has his eyes on a spot beside Rory McIlroy in Northern Ireland’s illustrious sporting stakes.

Victory over Rhys Griffin set up a PDC World Darts Championship last 32 clash against Chris Dobey. Rock has the potential to be a superstar, but he knows his country already has an icon in the shape of the golfing genius. He laughed: “It’ll take a lot to beat Rory McIlroy! I am a golf follower and, obviously, Rory is my No.1 So I’ll have to do a lot to beat Rory’s record. But I think if I won the World title, I might just take over everything!”

Rock dashed out from the Ally Pally to get a flight home and said: “I’ll be back on Boxing Day. I’ll enjoy Christmas Eve. Santa coming for the kids, then Christmas day at my wife’s mum’s house because she cooks a good Christmas dinner and I can’t complain at that! Then I’ll be back first thing.”

He’ll return for a cracker against Dobey and added: “I’m very happy with my progress because I went from not being ranked in the world to being ranked No.16. ”What I’ve done for my own self-belief is phenomenal because I didn’t think I’d be where I am now.
