Police also identified the victim who was shot and killed inside a vehicle.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department is asking for the public’s help searching for a person of interest believed to be involved in the city’s 70th homicide this year.

On Monday, police shared a photo of a man who appears to be wearing a black, red and white hat with a red rim, a gray Reebok sweatshirt, dark pants and a pair of black and white Nike shoes. Law enforcement believe he was involved in a shooting on Dec. 21 at an apartment complex in southeast Austin.

Law enforcement also identified the shooting victim as 34-year-old Mario Damian-Rayas, who died at the scene.

At roughly 9:25 p.m. on Saturday, APD arrived at 2504 Huntwick Dr. at the Chevy Chase Downs apartments after receiving a call of a possible shooting.

Officers found a man inside a vehicle who was suffering from gunshot wounds. Police said the victim was unresponsive, and he was pronounced dead at 9:32 p.m. He has since been identified as Damian-Rayas.

After further investigation, Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists said the suspect fled the scene after the shooting.
