Tottenham star Richarlison was seen waiting in the tunnel for Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker after Sunday’s nine-goal thriller.
Leaky Spurs were taught a lesson by Arne Slot’s table-toppers as the Reds stormed to an incredible 6-3 victory in North London. It marked an eighth Premier League defeat in 17 matches for Ange Postecoglou’s inconsistent troops and served as another example of the club conceding a significant number of goals at home.
At the end of the game, Richarlison – who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since November – stood in the tunnel for Alisson. Their interaction was friendly, stemming from the considerable time they have spent together on international duty with Brazil. Despite the outcome of the match, Richarlison was pleased to catch up with the goalkeeper, who has also battled injuries this season, as captured on Liverpool’s tunnel cam on YouTube.
Richarlison was spotted standing between the changing rooms in the tunnel corridor, donned in a large Tottenham winter coat with his hood up. As former Roma keeper Alisson passed by, he smiled and embraced his fellow countryman. While they were hugging, first-half goalscorer James Maddison also shook hands with Alisson. After a brief exchange, Richarlison and Alisson returned to their respective changing rooms.
Despite reuniting with his international teammate, Richarlison and the rest of Tottenham Hotspur had little cause for celebration following their latest loss that leaves them 11th in the Premier League table as they head into the festive period.
Their best shot at participating in European football next season seems to lie with the potential of success in the EFL Cup as they pin their hopes on beating Liverpool in the last four to reach the Wembley final. Tottenham’s difficult season has been partly attributed to an injury crisis affecting their defensive line-up.
Absentees include goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and defenders such as Micky van der Ven, Cristian Romero, and Ben Davies. Nonetheless, ex-Celtic boss Postecoglou has made it abundantly clear that he’s unwilling to alter his approach anytime soon.
